Edition Art
Posted in Direct from the Artist on 08/16/2009 08:41 pm by adminIn the original limited edition prints of art, what does it mean when a work is signed with a facsimile signature?
I hope to buy a print limited edition by Marc Chagall on e-bay and the seller said the book contains a facsimile signature. What does this mean?
When a printing is signed by a facsimile, which means that the printing was done and signed by a person other than the artist - usually real artist or a printing company which owns the copyright this work of art. Generally, this occurred after the death of the artist. The "signature" is the artist's name, written in pencil Below the picture, for someone with nice handwriting. That's all. The term limited edition can be a bit of a scam in these conditions ... "Limited" refers only to a certain size, paper type and print run. 20,000 impressions of the same image - only an inch taller - can then be made to devalue an earlier edition. Check the number of printing and publishing - the bottom of each of these numbers are, the best resale value they have. But this is not a guarantee of quality printing. He saw some large paintings prints made in color representation horrible, just horrible ... however, are sold to museums and galleries for big $. My final advice is this - you will not buy anything Chagall never touched. There will be an investment ... but if you like the piece and the price is right, do it and enjoy yourself.

Dark Side of the Moon 30th Anniversary Edition List Price: $18.98 Sale Price: $11.87 Average Rating: ![]() |

Dark Side of the Moon, originally released in 1973, is one of those albums that is discovered anew by each generation of rock listeners. This complex, often psychedelic music works very well because Pink Floyd doesn't rush anything; the songs are mainly slow to mid-tempo, with attention paid throughout to musical texture and mood. The sound effects on songs like "On the Run," "Time" and especially "Money" (with sampled sounds of clinking coins and cash registers turned into rhythmic accompaniment) are impressive, especially when we remember that 1973 was before the advent of digital recording techniques. This is probably Pink Floyd's best-known work, and it's an excellent place to start if you're new to the band. --Genevieve Williams The Super Audio CD (SACD) features two disc layers. One layer contains a standard version of the album that works on any CD player. The other layer includes high-resolution stereo and a 5.1 surround version of the recording that works on SACD-compatible DVD players and home theater systems. Both layers employ SACD's Direct Stream Digital (DSD) encoding process that samples the music 64 times faster than CD for unprecedented fidelity. Full Title - Dark Side of the Moon 30th Anniversary Edition. It's been 30 years since 'Floyd released their masterwork, and it's been on the charts for most of them! And now comes a new dimension to what was already the ultimate headphone experience-this new edition includes a newly-remastered conventional version and a Super Audio CD 5.1 surround mix version playable on SACD-compatible DVD players and home theater systems. Original designer Storm Thorgerson chips in with new art inside the 20-page booklet. Capitol. 2003. |

Richard Simmons Dance Your Pants Off! [VHS] List Price: $14.98 Sale Price: $14.98 Average Rating: ![]() |
|
Richard Simmons, the great motivator, presents another light-intensity, low-impact, high-energy workout in the style of his popular Sweatin' to the Oldies series. Again live music is the focus--this time 1980s dance hits such as "Celebration," "Flashdance," "Gloria," "She Works Hard for the Money," and "Call Me." Just like in the Sweatin' videos, Simmons leads a large class of people of both genders and all shapes and sizes--all having the time of their lives dancing, singing, and cheering (their noisiness may grate on you after a while). Richard wears his signature shorts and tank top, and his followers wear multicolored casual clothes. The message is that it doesn't matter how you look or how much you weigh--just show up and dance! The dance-style choreography is matched to the music, but no moves require much coordination or memory. Simmons barely cues the changes--just watch and follow. This tape is a lot of fun, especially if you remember this music well enough to sing along! At the end of the tape, the performers dance down the center while we read their names and the amount of weight they've lost. Several have lost more than 100 pounds, and one woman has lost 282 pounds! (No, that's not a misprint.) Simmons is to be applauded for making exercise accessible and enjoyable to a whole population of people who didn't know that workouts could be fun. --Joan Price |

Mary Poppins [VHS] List Price: $22.99 Sale Price: $10.97 Average Rating: ![]() |

There is only one word that comes close to accurately describing the enchanting Mary Poppins, and that term was coined by the movie itself: supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Even at 2 hours and 20 minutes, Disney's pioneering mixture of live action and animation (based on the books by P.L. Travers) still holds kids spellbound. Julie Andrews won an Oscar as the world's most magically idealized nanny ("practically perfect in every way," and complete with lighter-than-air umbrella), and Dick Van Dyke is her clownishly charming beau, Bert the chimney sweep. The songs are also terrific, ranging from bright and cheery ("A Spoonful of Sugar") to dark and cheery (the Oscar-winning "Chim Chim Cher-ee") to touchingly melancholy ("Feed the Birds"). Many consider Mary Poppins to be the crowning achievement of Walt Disney's career--and it was the only one of his features to be nominated for a best picture Academy Award until Beauty and the Beast in 1991. --Jim Emerson Stills from Mary Poppins (Click for larger image) |

Museum Sized 22" Tall Plasma Globe - Purple Plasma Effect - 15" Diameter Ball List Price: $499.99 Sale Price: $399.99 Average Rating: ![]() |
|
This Plasma Globe is part of a New Collection of Museum Sized Purple Plasma Globes that we have produced. These Plasma Balls feature red-tipped, purple plasma lightning, moving in a way which is reminiscent of a gently swaying sea anemone. On a low-power setting, the plasma fingers swirl around the central electrode in a subtle light dance, but once you turn the power up, the plasma streams become more active and energized, with plasma fingers gently reaching towards the surface of the glass. This gas mixture has a very strong electrical updraft, which produces an intense, concentrated plasma current when you put your hand on the top of the globe.Due to variations in the manufacturing process, no two globes are exactly alike, making each one truly a collector's item!Museums across the world have amazed their visitors with huge Plasma Globes, using them to explain the principals of electricity. These beautiful light sculptures can reach 36" in diameter and cost above $25,000!In the past, nothing like this was available for people to have in their homes, so we decided to start designing large diameter plasma balls which approach the size and visual impact of museum globes. These globes are nearly twice the diameter of the largest consumer globes on market! At 22" tall, these globes feature a 15" Glass Ball set atop a 7" faux Burl-wood molded base. This is a quality-finished item that will be the centerpiece of any room, and the plasma effects are so bright that they not only are easily seen in daylight, but are spectacular in a darkened room!Make no mistake, the small mass-market globes from Radio Shack, Spencer Gifts, and other such stores hold no comparison to this product. If you enjoy owning limited-supply, exclusive items which very few people have seen, then our new 15" Plasma Globes are a must have!VIDEO: www.stdi.ca/amazon/video.php?s=80552 |
